Deidre Henderson has run elections in Utah for years, and she did not expect the newest pressure to come from her own side of the table. "But now we also have threats coming from within our own government," the state's lieutenant governor tells Lesley Stahl.

The 60 Minutes report, credited on screen to producer Andrew Bast, starts in Georgia. FBI agents seized 2020 election ballots from a Fulton County warehouse, and county commissioner Dana Barrett still sounds startled: "In my wildest dreams, I never imagined that we would be raided by the FBI of all things." She also explains why the county handed them over: "They had a valid warrant signed by a judge. We did not have a choice." Internal FBI emails shown in the segment describe a surge of 260 analysts assigned to the Georgia material.

From there Stahl moves to the Justice Department's requests for full voter registration databases. Henderson says they included information her office is required by law to keep private, and nearly thirty states pushed back, which led to federal lawsuits. When Homeland Security Secretary Markwayne Mullin warns that officials could face fines or even prison, Henderson waves it off: "We're not going to prison. No. It's silly."

Harmeet Dhillon, head of the department's Civil Rights Division, gives the government's side. She says the work targets suspected illegal noncitizen voting, and she rejects the idea that it erodes confidence: "It's not to sow distrust. The distrust is there." The segment closes with Henderson on falling public trust and on why losing candidates need to concede gracefully.

The report reached about 474,000 views in its first day, roughly seventeen times what a new 60 Minutes video usually draws. The comments arrived even faster, around thirty times the usual pace. A question many viewers repeat is who signed the Georgia warrant, and others argue over whether states or the federal government should run elections.

The broadcast's lighter half had a strong day as well. An extended interview with Sacha Baron Cohen, in which he traces the paths of Ali G, Borat and Bruno and explains why Ali G is coming back, opened at more than four times the channel's usual pace.
