Cafe owner Al reaches for a chair as a customer tries to protect himself. Around him, other bystanders step in to defend the man after a stranger strikes him outside a Perth city-center cafe.
The surveillance footage appears in 7NEWS Australia's Short, "Man attacked while waiting for his coffee." It shows the attacker approaching the seated customer and swinging a golf club at the back of his head. The report says the unprovoked attack sent the man to the hospital.
The clip had drawn more than 200,000 views within its first 16 hours, a substantially faster start than the broadcaster's usual Shorts.
