Nepal's floodwater carries off a steel bridge in Manbu within seconds
AccuWeather's onlooker clip shows the whole collapse in under a quarter of a minute, while a Las Vegas flood video drew a big crowd of its own the next day.
Why this story? The video opened at a pace of 310,749 views a day, 16 times a normal first day on this channel (20,078).
This Bridge Didn't Stand a Chance Against the Flood 🌊
About ten seconds is all it takes. In the footage AccuWeather posted from Manbu, Nepal, brown floodwater churns under a large steel arch bridge, slams against its footing, and the structure folds inward and drops straight into the river. The camera pulls back as the frame sinks and the current carries it off.
The people filming are never seen, only heard, reacting in Nepali as the crossing disappears. The clip is credited to @_bmadans via Storyful and dated October 11, the Sunday when, as we reported here, flash floods tore through central Nepal and washed away around 40 homes. That earlier report counted the damage. This one shows a single piece of it happening.
It has passed 400,000 views in just over a day, a far bigger start than the channel's Shorts usually get. The comment section moved at about twice its usual first-day pace. Much of the talk is about what comes after: the time and money a new bridge will cost, and how people on the far bank will manage. Others watch it frame by frame. One viewer points to a boulder that seems to strike the bridge just before it buckles, another suggests a longer, higher span for the rebuild, and someone asks whether this is the same bridge seen in footage a few days earlier.
Water was the theme of AccuWeather's whole day. A second Short, "Watch the whole street become a river in Vegas," also took off, showing floodwater pouring out of parking garages along the Las Vegas Strip. According to its description, Tropical Storm Rachel brought the city 1.08 inches of rain, tying its October daily record from 1947. Two continents, two floods, and the same sound of people filming something they cannot stop.
