Can Sonic be too fast? AnthonyCSN questions fan-game scale

His biggest new upload sparks a discussion about ramps, floaty movement and whether speed leaves enough room for platforming.

Why this story? The channel's weekly summary: what went up this week, what is drawing views now, and where the channel stands among similar channels.

Speed is Sonic's calling card, but AnthonyCSN's latest critique asks what happens when there is too much of it. "Sonic Fan Games Are Always Too BIG and Too FAST... #SonicTheHedgehog #SonicFanGames #SonicGames" has reached about 235,000 views, making it the most watched of his fifteen new uploads this week.

The conversation underneath gets pleasantly specific. Viewers discuss small ramps launching Sonic too high, sprawling environments that feel more like sandboxes than levels, and movement that lets players bypass the platforming. Several point to the Adventure games as their preferred balance of exploration and speed. Others bring up branching routes, enemies and the street-side details in Sonic Unleashed: things that give all that running somewhere to go.

The Sonic critique also carries the channel's strongest daily momentum. Behind it are two Star Wars Galactic Racer uploads, including the worth-it question we covered earlier and a newer take on why the game never gets boring. Elsewhere, Anthony found room for Lightspeed Lina commentary and an imagined GTA 6 scenario involving NPCs talking to police.

The subscriber count stayed unchanged across the week, while today's viewing pace is roughly five times the channel's usual daily level. Among nearby gaming-commentary channels, DF Clips and OhNoItsAlexx gathered larger weekly audiences; Displaced Gamers had a quieter week. For AnthonyCSN, the most substantial new discussion is about a surprisingly practical design question: not how fast Sonic can move, but what players get to do along the way.

What viewers say

  • The problem with the fanmade games is they give Sonic too much upward momentum, in Adventure 1 you get good momentum but not so much that you fly over the stage just launching from a small ramp

  • This has always been my problem with most of 3d sonic fan games. They just feel way too open and floaty where you're not even interacting with most of the level design. I think they're just prioritizing movement above all else

  • This is the issue I have with most fan games. I have always felt that the Adventure style gameplay and level design hit the perfect balance of level size, exploration and speed.

  • I also feel like there's a noticeable lack of enemies. Whereas in official Sonic games it's a major focus that you're actively fighting against an army of robots as you're running around at the speed of sound™, in fangames they feel more like an afterthought
  • Sonic unleashed had fantastic level design with environments that actually felt lived in along with the scale needed to portray sonics speed and sense of adventure. Seeing people on the sides of the street in Apotos or Shamaar as you blow by will always be a core memory for me.

  • Agreed, leveldesign plays a big role in platformer Games. Best example is Sonic Robo Blast 2. It feels like a 16 Bit Sonic Game became 3D.
There is also a lot of exploration and multiple routes.

Another good example is Spark the electric Jester two which is clearly Sonic inspired. The leveldesign is great, you partially go fast, but also have platforming heavy section.
  • You could make most of the game reasonably big with Sonic at a reasonable speed and have occasional massive enviornments where Sonic speeds up a few gears.

Like the mach speed sections but with good execution

  • I've been saying the exact same thing for years. Classic Sonic levels were crazy layered and vertical, not just long race tracks with speed pads and grind rails.
