Jimmy's mother-in-law and Creek's invisible thief return on BBC Playback

Four archive uploads bring After You've Gone, Jonathan Creek and Steve Coogan's Paul Calf back into view.

Why this story? The channel's weekly summary: what went up this week, what is drawing views now, and where the channel stands among similar channels.

BBC Playback opened up three different corners of the BBC archive, pairing domestic sitcom trouble with impossible mysteries and Steve Coogan's character comedy. These are selections from existing shows, not new productions.

The biggest audience among the four new uploads went to "After You've Gone: Jimmy's Discovery | Series 1 | BBC Playback," with about 2,000 views. Nicholas Lyndhurst plays Jimmy, a weekend dad taking on full-time care of his children while his ex-wife volunteers in East Africa. The complication is Celia Imrie's Diana, his mother-in-law, who practically moves in to supervise. Divorce has not quite delivered the household separation he might have expected.

Jonathan Creek supplies a different kind of complication. "The Scented Room – Ep 3 Highlights | Jonathan Creek | BBC Playback" centers on a valuable painting stolen by an apparently invisible thief. Alan Davies's illusion designer and Caroline Quentin's investigative writer Maddy Magellan make an apt pairing for a mystery built around what seems impossible. The channel also posted "The Wrestler's Tomb Part 1 | Jonathan Creek Series 1 Ep 1 – FULL EPISODE | BBC Playback," offering a route back to their first case together.

The newest addition, "Paul Calf Joins A Cult | Coogan's Run | BBC Playback," currently has the strongest daily momentum of the selected videos, followed by Jimmy's discovery and The Scented Room. Coogan's fictional village of Ottle provides the setting for a collection of sharply different comic characters, with Paul and Pauline Calf among them.

The channel added roughly 300,000 views over the week and gained subscribers modestly. Its current daily viewing is above its usual level. Among nearby television channels, NCIS had a much larger viewing week, while Doctor Who: Classic | FULL EPISODES was quieter. BBC Playback's own week kept its archive varied: family friction, visual trickery and a distinctly unruly Coogan character.
