Middle-Aged Man Island: Mitchell and Webb take on Love Island

Channel 4 Comedy stitched every part of the dating-show parody into one video, while a twelve-day-old reel of people failing at their jobs did the heavier lifting.

Why this story? The channel's weekly summary: what went up this week, what is drawing views now, and where the channel stands among similar channels.

Channel 4 Comedy is passing 285 million views in total, and it is David Mitchell and Robert Webb who are doing most of the work. Two uploads went up in seven days, and the bigger of them gathers every part of "Middle-Aged Man Island!", the Love Island send-up from Series 1 of Mitchell and Webb Are Not Helping. The tags give away the flavor: dad jokes, camping and a villa full of men of a certain age.

The Peep Show pair's newer sketch show has a younger cast around them, Lara Ricote, Stevie Martin and Kiell Smyth-Bynoe among them, and it has become this channel's engine. The video moving fastest right now is "13 minutes of people being TERRIBLE at their jobs", a twelve-day-old compilation that runs from a bad spy to a useless therapist and a confused teacher, with a hapless Foley artist turning up three times between them. Behind it, a second sketch collection from late summer keeps going past a quarter of a million views.

Under the island video, commenters own up to being middle-aged men themselves, and one wonders aloud why the woman in the sketch never arrives.

The week's other upload was a short clip from Break Clause, the romantic comedy about a couple moving in together, with Alice Snedden and Samuel Bottomley in its tags. A royal wedding special of The Windsors, Harry Enfield's soap opera spoof, also kept drawing viewers.

The channel moved at its usual pace and added about a thousand subscribers. Among the TV and streaming channels nearest its size, it sat mid-table for views, while Two and a Half Men and Young Sheldon had the big weeks.
