Pub friction and gnocchi chips share Channel 4 Food's table

A 2007 Kitchen Nightmares visit to West Wales joins Jamie Oliver's fast-dinner recipes across three uploads.

What draws more attention on Channel 4 Food: sorting out a struggling pub or sorting out dinner? This week's biggest new upload is Gordon Ramsay's visit to the Fish & Anchor near Lampeter, where ex-boxer Mike and his wife Caron run the restaurant and bar.

The Kitchen Nightmares episode first aired in 2007 and has gathered about 27,000 views on its new upload. Its heated exchanges are the talking point in the comments: viewers single out the argument late in the episode and remember a particular verbal turning point. This is restaurant-rescue television from the archive, rather than a new Ramsay visit.

Jamie Oliver supplies the practical counterweight. His first upload pairs cumin-crusted lamb chops, couscous and chickpeas with a pea, paneer and potato curry. It opened with slightly more views in its first day than the Ramsay episode, though the pub visit has since built the larger audience.

Oliver's newest steak dinner has a useful twist on chips: shop-bought gnocchi pan-fried with butter and rosemary, served alongside garlic spinach and a creamy pan sauce. It was only half a day old at the time of writing.

Across the channel, subscribers held steady while daily viewing was substantially below its usual pace. Even so, weekly views were second only to BBC Comedy among the nearby television channels. Ramsay's older Fenwick Arms upload remains another major source of momentum, bringing its fussy pub menu and Campaign for Real Gravy back into circulation.
