The Power of the Monster Movie (John Goodman Scene) | Matinee
Lawrence Woolsey has a monster movie to sell and a theory about why people want to be frightened. Played by John Goodman in Joe Dante's Matinee, the showman explains horror's primal appeal while preparing his premiere. That scene supplied Comedy Bites Vintage's most watched new upload, reaching about 3,200 views.
The 1993 comedy sets its fictional creature feature, "Mant!", against the Cuban Missile Crisis in Key West. It's a particularly apt choice for Dante, whose films include Gremlins: moviegoing itself is part of the entertainment here, complete with Woolsey's theatrical gimmicks.
The clips channel's nine-upload week also spent plenty of time with Blues Brothers 2000. Dan Aykroyd's Elwood tries recruiting Joe Morton's Commander Cab, tracks down Mr. Fabulous and his old bandmates, and takes refuge at a revival meeting. A separate Steve Martin and John Candy compilation gathers steak challenges, Little League mishaps and balloon-animal routines.
But the strongest daily momentum belongs to the original film. "The Penguin Demands Honest Money | The Blues Brothers," posted just before this week, is drawing nearly 10,000 views a day, substantially more than the Matinee scene. Goodman also appears elsewhere on the active shelf as an increasingly self-important Fred in The Flintstones.
Subscribers held steady, while daily viewing is moderately above the channel's usual pace. Among nearby movie and TV channels, Nyxalis Moive had a much larger viewing week and Ben's Take was quiet; Comedy Bites Vintage had the second-largest weekly view gain in this group. Its older Blues Brothers clip remains the main attraction among its most active uploads.
