Julia Stiles and Ezra Sosa’s Super Bowl Night Jazz | Dancing with the Stars

Julia Stiles and Ezra Sosa start with chairs, but she does not stay seated for long. Their Super Bowl Night jazz routine moves from synchronized chair choreography into hip-hop-inspired steps, then gives Stiles the floor while Sosa steps back.

Set to Jennifer Lopez's "Jenny From The Block [Track Masters remix]" featuring Jadakiss and Styles P, the performance has drawn nearly half a million views before its first full day. That is far beyond the official Dancing with the Stars channel's usual start for a Short, with a much busier comment section, too.

The solo is a particularly fitting detail for the actress who played aspiring dancer Sara in Save the Last Dance. Viewers are picking out callbacks to the film and talking about co-star Sean Patrick Thomas's presence in the audience. Several describe the performance as a reason to revisit the movie, rather than simply another ballroom routine to score.

Super Bowl Night also brought unusually strong starts for Guillermo Rodriguez and Witney Carson's salsa to Bad Bunny's "Tití Me Preguntó," and Harry Shum Jr. and Jenna Johnson's samba to USHER's "Yeah!" featuring Lil Jon and Ludacris. Stiles and Sosa's contribution takes a compact route through its musical throwback: chairs, a solo spotlight, then fast synchronized footwork before the furniture gets kicked aside.
