Lucia's prison call opens GTA 6's launch trailer on GameSpot
Jason's money troubles at a Vice City marina give way to swamp jobs, biplane stunts and a November 19 release date in Rockstar's last big preview.
Why this story? The video opened at a pace of 477,960 views a day, 23 times a normal first day on this channel (20,694).
Grand Theft Auto VI (GTA6) - Official Launch Trailer
"I got in some trouble in the army. Didn't leave on the best of terms," Jason says, standing at Brian's Marina. A moment later an automated voice announces a free call from Lucia Caminos, an inmate. That is how Grand Theft Auto VI's launch trailer begins: with a man who cannot get a loan, before it moves on to far more expensive problems.
This is Rockstar's own promotional trailer, carried on GameSpot's channel, and it drew more than 375,000 views in its first 15 hours. That is a very different opening from the channel's usual short uploads, and the comment section filled more than twenty times faster than on a typical first day. Viewers joke about the hour-long reaction videos sure to follow a trailer of about a minute and a half, and about finally getting a GTA 6 launch trailer before GTA 6 itself.
After the "Rockstar Games Presents" card, the montage runs through neon skylines, swamp operations, bank heists, rooftop gunfights, helicopter rappelling and someone walking along a biplane's wing. In the middle of it the pace drops for a balcony scene. "Are we going to be okay?" Lucia asks, and Jason answers that they have stuck together through everything.
The description promises an easy score gone wrong and a conspiracy across Leonida, Rockstar's fictional take on Florida. It credits new music to Justice, the French electronic duo behind the game's original score, and says the footage was captured entirely in-game on a PlayStation 5.
GameSpot followed the trailer with its own "GTA 6 Launch Trailer - Breakdown and Theories", on a day that also brought a look at whether the Resident Evil remakes hold up on Switch 2.
