Palestinian wine, tradwives and a sudden rush of views at Girl vs Globe

More than 800,000 views landed in a single day on a channel that has not posted since August, and the subscriber count did not budge.

Why this story? The whole channel is running at 825,576 views a day, 121 times a normal day (6,844).

Girl vs Globe usually goes about its business quietly, at a few thousand views a day. Then came a day that brought in more than 800,000, well over a hundred times the usual pace and nearly the channel's whole week on its own.

It did not come from anything new. The latest upload is from August 20, a Short titled "made in Palestine?! 🇵🇸 #palestine #fashionshorts" about where clothes come from. Before it came a run of Shorts with question-mark titles: a tasting asking "Palestinian wine? 😱", one on "commodity feminism?! 😬💅", and one on female suffrage tagged #tradwife. The channel sits under travel, but this summer's shelf leans toward questions about identity, products and politics, each asked in under a minute.

It is not clear which video set off the rush. None of the recent Shorts has passed 20,000 views, so the traffic is probably going somewhere further back in a catalog that has passed 100 million views.

Whoever came to watch did not stay to subscribe. The count sat at 274,000 all week.
