Canadian dealers accuse XCMG of altering equipment manufacturing years

China-based heavy equipment company XCMG accused of defrauding Canadian dealers
"It's destroyed our family, it's destroyed our family business," Ryan Martin says as he enters the Vancouver Law Courts in Global News' report.
Martin, president of Arctic Machinery, says his company began working with Chinese state-owned manufacturer XCMG in 2017. He describes a decline in equipment quality, but the central accusation concerns something more specific: whether machines were sold as newer than they really were.
Martin gives the example of equipment built in 2020 being sold to his company as a 2022 machine. Reporter Paul Johnson describes civil lawsuits across several Canadian provinces alleging that serial-number plates were altered to misrepresent manufacturing years.
XCMG Canada is defending itself against the civil actions. In a written statement shown in the report, the company says Arctic Machinery purchased approximately $18 million in inventory that it did not pay for. Johnson also reports on Arctic Machinery's forced bankruptcy and its claims of retaliation.
The Short drew roughly 67,000 views in its opening eight hours, a much faster start than usual for Global News' short-form reports.
Beyond the civil cases, Johnson reports that the RCMP's K Division Auto Theft Unit executed a search warrant at XCMG's Edmonton headquarters in April. That investigation remains active; the allegations described in the report are not court findings.
