Van de Ven picks between LEGENDARY defenders 👀

GOAL's FanZone, the clips channel billed as "the home of football fan opinion," usually hands the microphone to supporters. Its newest upload turned it over to a player instead. Tottenham's Micky van de Ven sat down for a knockout of great defenders: John Terry, Rio Ferdinand, Vincent Kompany, his Dutch teammate Virgil van Dijk, Giorgio Chiellini, Sergio Ramos, Thiago Silva and Gerard Piqué. It was filmed at a Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 grudge match, and within its first half day it was gathering views faster than anything else on the shelf.

The other six uploads stayed with the fans. A Liverpool supporter took on five Premier League rivals over Gerrard, Klopp, Suárez and whether Florian Wirtz is the worst signing ever. A Real Madrid fan argued that Jose Mourinho, back for a second spell at the Bernabéu, is a changed man. An Arsenal fan made the case for peak Alexis Sánchez. The most watched of the week asked whether Vinícius Júnior can ever win the Ballon d'Or. Many in its comments, Madrid fans among them, think his moment has passed, and several put Raphinha or Michael Olise ahead of him.

An older debate kept working too: Bale, Benzema and Ronaldo against Messi, Suárez and Neymar, the two attacks that defined La Liga for years.

The channel ran a little below its usual pace and added about 2,000 subscribers. Even so, it gathered more than three million views, second among the football channels nearest its size. Only JS.COMPARISON drew more, and George Benson's Chelsea channel had a very busy week of its own.
