Heartland Season 20, Episode 1 'Renewal' First Look | CBC

Season 20 has arrived. Heartland, the CBC drama that has followed the Fleming family and their Alberta ranch since 2007, opened its twentieth season, and the official channel spent the week walking viewers through it, eleven uploads in all.

The first look at Episode 1, 'Renewal', was the week's most watched upload, passing 150,000 views. Its description lays out the trouble: a new "horse whisperer" turns up in Hudson to unsettle Amy, Lou fears the worst when Jack talks about retiring, and Katie and River's friendship gets tested. In the comments, viewers check in from Pakistan, New Jersey and Texas, and one admits to bingeing every season while home sick from work. Another is working through season 12 one episode a day.

Once the premiere aired, the clips followed. "We finally get Amy's answer to Nathan's proposal!" settles the cliffhanger that closed Season 19. Jack and Lisa renew their vows where they had their first date, a fitting scene for a show reaching its own twentieth year. Lisa also faces down her Aunt Evelyn, and Lyndy asks Jack a hard question about loss on a ranch.

The clip moving fastest right now has nothing to do with romance: "Attacked by ketchup!", two days old, comes with a single warning in its description: don't cross Jade.

The channel ran well above its usual daily pace and added about 2,000 subscribers. Among similar TV channels, Two and a Half Men and Young Sheldon had the biggest weeks, while Heartland sat comfortably in the middle, close to ABC Entertainment and BritBox.
