Old auditions, new crowd. IdolsSA, the official channel of South Africa's long-running singing competition, is mining its archive, and the clip pulling hardest is a story about an accident of timing.

Paxton Fielies went to the Cape Town auditions of Season 13 to support a friend. The description says she chose her song, Tori Kelly's "Confetti", only the night before, and walked out as the first Cape Town contestant that season to win a Golden Ticket. Fans of the show know how that run ended: Paxton went on to win Season 13 in 2017. The clip is two weeks old and drawing around twice the daily views of the channel's next busiest video.

That runner-up is another winner's first step: Noma Khumalo's audition, the start of the journey that ended with the Season 12 crown.

The week's only new upload goes back to Season 12 as well. Melody Ndlovu, a singer with albinism and a striking blonde afro, won over Somizi Mhlongo, Unathi Nkayi, Randall Abrahams and Gareth Cliff for four yeses and a ticket to Theatre Week. It began more gently than the others, and its comments mostly ask for one thing: her Theatre Week solo.

Overall the channel is running a little above its usual pace, adding about 1,000 subscribers to reach 434,000. Among talent and reality channels near its size, Food Club and EastEnders are having the busier weeks, while Big Brother is well below its normal rhythm.
