Davis Ingle is not a name late-night viewers usually hear. The White House spokesman put out a statement attacking Jimmy Kimmel and his show's ratings in response to an earlier monologue, and by the next taping Kimmel had it on screen and was reading it as part of the act.
It is the latest round of a back-and-forth that has filled the show's openings lately. As we reported here, Donald Trump called Kimmel a "loser" days earlier, and Kimmel answered with photos of empty seats. This time the reply came on official letterhead, and the monologue, titled "The White House is Mad at Jimmy Kimmel AGAIN, Trump's Press Secretary Mess & Fox News Betrays Him," drew about 3.7 million views in its first day. That is roughly twenty times the start of a usual Kimmel upload of this length, and the comment section filled about nine times faster than normal.
The statement shares the program with plenty else. Kimmel opens with a Fox News forecast giving Democrats the House, Trump promoting the rival network RSBN on Truth Social, and a headline about falling traffic on the platform. Then he turns to new press secretary Katie Zacharia and the question of whether she is, in fact, an attorney, with communications director Steven Cheung's praise for her shown on screen.
The warmest stretch belongs to Guillermo. Fresh from his Dancing with the Stars exit, he is shown in hidden-camera footage turning down drinks the crew kept offering him during two months of training. "I made a commitment and I stayed with it, I said no drinking," he says. His reward is tequila, served in the coconut bra he wore in the ballroom. Many commenters stop thanking Jimmy long enough to congratulate Guillermo.
After that come two actors dressed as mosquitoes in the audience and another "This Week in Unnecessary Censorship," before Kimmel previews the night's guests, Judd Apatow and Kim Kardashian.
