Max Fosh has an unexpected reference tool for Miniminter's latest challenge: he brought the same North Face backpack as the one they are trying to authenticate.
"This is my backpack," he announces, as Simon and Max work through pairs of genuine products and counterfeits in "REAL vs FAKE!". They still split their guesses on that round. Owning something, it turns out, doesn't settle every argument about its double.
The upload drew more than 207,000 views in its first nine hours, an unusually fast opening for Miniminter. It follows his talent-guessing video, but this time the clues are stitching, labels, smells and the sounds a speaker makes when it switches on.
Some tests are more helpful than others. Simon draws on having worn Adidas Predator boots to examine their details. A replica Lego Aston Martin box gives itself away with misspelled packaging. The Tom Ford fragrance round sends both contestants in the wrong direction when they decide the scent they dislike must be the fake.
Later, they pour water onto Arc'teryx sleeves to test how the jackets repel it. Viewers are discussing how similar some of the pairs look, while one points to the shade of blue on the Leeds United shirt as a giveaway. Others want another appearance from Max.
The final test swaps fabric and plastic for Rolex watches. Max listens to the movement and studies the bracelet, crown and dial, with Simon making the round worth double points to keep a tie within reach.
