Phoebe, the British creator behind phoebeisginger, put up a short called "US WORDS 🇺🇸 VS UK WORDS 🇬🇧 which country is correct?" and passed a million views within thirteen hours. A new short on her channel usually ends its first day nearer a tenth of that.

The idea is not new to her. Two days earlier she posted "WORDS IN THE US 🇺🇸 VS WORDS IN THE UK 🇬🇧," a close cousin that has done respectably. The second attempt is the one that caught, and the comment section moved roughly twice as fast as a normal first day, with likes running far ahead too.

What are people talking about? Geography, mostly. Several viewers point out that calling flip flops thongs is an Australian habit, not an American or a British one. Others dispute the American pronunciation of data in the short, and one of the most liked comments comes from someone who has just realized they use British words with an American accent. The rubber mix-up, which means an eraser in Britain and something quite different in America, gets its own fan club, as does her struggle to say water the American way. Her signature "oh hell naw" turns up in the replies like an old friend.

The transatlantic theme runs through her week: a short on a Brit working in the US for the first time, another on seatbelts for men and women. And an older video is stirring at the same time, a "nature blind box" of conkers, the horse chestnuts British children have long strung up and swung at each other each autumn.
