Pidgin Doll turns a corn-and-Korn mix-up into punk fashion

Fresh ears of corn sit beside the paper as Joshua David McKenney sketches a pair of figures in yellow. The inspiration isn't a fashion collection. It's an encounter from his teenage years that he still remembers.

In Pidgin Doll's July upload, McKenney recalls meeting girls who told him they loved corn. He assumed they meant Korn, the rock band. They meant the vegetable, right down to wearing corn necklaces and treating ears of corn as telephones.

That memory becomes a time-lapse illustration: yellow kernel textures, green husk-like hair and punk accessories turn the acquaintances into stylized fashion characters. The drawing gives an old conversation a whole wardrobe.

The video has added about 105,000 views in a day, roughly eighteen times its usual daily pace, bringing it close to two million views more than three months after publication. It is an older story making a substantial contribution while McKenney's recent uploads feature the Mermaid Sisters and fashion-doll drawing.

In the comments, viewers propose corn-themed character names, pick out the punk design and threaten to adopt the vegetable-based telephone greeting themselves. McKenney's own explanation for preserving the memory is simpler: "I think about those girls at least once a week."
