Red Green's 'A Duct-Taped Marriage' puts the motorcycle on trial
The Possum Lodge Short has viewers swapping wedding vows, Mensa jokes and a serious case for the contraption's fuel economy.
Why this story? The video opened at a pace of 81,114 views a day, 13 times a normal first day on this channel (6,048).
A Duct-Taped Marriage | The Red Green Show
Eleven hours after it went up, "A Duct-Taped Marriage | The Red Green Show" had passed 54,000 views. That is about what last weekend's Possum Lodge Word Game clip, "A Dangerous Game," has gathered in five days. A Short on this channel usually finishes its whole first day near 6,000.
The premise is short enough to fit on a roll of tape: Uncle Red knows marriage, the description says, and duct tape helps. It points viewers to "Spouse Control" for more of the same wisdom, and the tags give away the other half of the joke, a motorcycle. In the comments, the bike becomes the real subject. One viewer argues it is the reason she started dating you and the first thing she wants gone after the wedding. A woman answers that she had a motorcycle, and a WaveRunner, before she ever married. Someone remembers a groom who promised in his vows to ask his wife before buying another big Harley.
The most practical comment takes Red's handiwork seriously: done right, it says, the thing would fix a rider's visibility problem and might even save fuel. Close behind it is a viewer asking how this man is not in Mensa, and another who leads the room in the Man's Prayer, the oath that closed every Possum Lodge meeting.
Steve Smith's flannel-shirted handyman ran for 15 seasons on Canadian television, from 1991 to 2006, and the official channel has spent October cutting that long run into small pieces, alongside a free Red Green TV app it introduced on the first of the month. The comments here came in about twice as fast as on a usual first day for its Shorts, and the likes about four times as fast. Meanwhile "Peak Laziness," the seatbelt hammock clip we reported on here, has kept climbing toward half a million.

How is this man not a member of MENSA?
@williamgebhart2435See it on YouTubeRed Green could fix all the worlds problems.... with duct tape😂
@JohnSmith-bs7bdSee it on YouTubeThe sad part is, that would probably sell pretty well. It solves a safety issue of low visibility, and allows you the feeling of freedom that a motorcycle provides. If done right, a faring like that could even increase your fuel economy

Before a niece of mine got married 5 years ago, her husband had bought a motorcycle, a big H-D. A line in his vows to her during the ceremony was 'I will ask my wife before I get another motorcycle'.
@leonb2637See it on YouTubeBow your head for the man’s prayer. “I’m a man, but I can change, if I have to, I guess.”
@jaymore4531See it on YouTubeIf I rode up with that, my husband would have a lot of questions. 😂

A Short that would normally have a quiet first day ran far ahead of it within hours, on a channel already having a busy October.
