Refashioned Hippie presents the "Pubescent Frog of Silent War"

Her Halloween costume roundup turns familiar characters into oddly named alternatives, and viewers have some corrections for the packaging.

Why this story? The video opened at a pace of 1,010,292 views a day, 8.3 times a normal first day on this channel (121,081).

The shell is a giveaway. Refashioned Hippie's favorite costume in her latest roundup resembles a Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle, but its packaging has other ideas: "Pubescent Frog of Silent War."

The comedy Short drew an estimated million views in its first day, roughly eight times the channel's usual Shorts start. Its subject is what the host calls "Copyright Avoidance Halloween": recognizable character costumes sold under names that carefully sidestep the recognizable characters.

Some substitutions are almost sensible. Luigi becomes "Sidekick Bros," while a Joker-style wig settles for "Green Villain." Others take a more adventurous route through the thesaurus. Cher Horowitz's Clueless outfit is labeled "Notionless," and Where's Waldo becomes "Where's the Stripey Dude?"

The names give viewers plenty to work with. Comments extend the Shego-inspired costume's wordplay to an imaginary Kim Possible counterpart, question why a shelled ninja has become a frog, and suggest a more flattering label for Gomez Addams than "Creepy Husband." One viewer adds a Wednesday-inspired costume name from their own shopping experience, turning the thread into an unofficial extension of the roundup.

Costume comedy isn't the channel's only million-view subject today. A separate Short about how people shop has also crossed that mark, sitting alongside recent uploads about thrifting and functional ready-to-wear clothing. Refashioned Hippie's clothing commentary has room for both shopping choices and a ninja turtle with a spectacularly wrong label.

  • The Pubescent Frog of Silent War is pretty good, but you'd have to loudly announce yourself thus wherever you go to really sell it

You know if it was labeled Sheigo the irony would have killed me. 😂

  • I love Pubescent Frogs of Silent War, maybe I can get that for my nephew, and I can go as the Frogs' adoptive hamster dad, Sensei Sliver. 😆
