The attention is new. "I've never had anyone care about anything I've done, ever," James Acaster tells Patrick Kielty, turning his Celebrity Traitors fame into a joke at his own expense.

His Late Late Show debut has drawn about 53,000 views in its opening 21 hours, putting it on course for more than ten times the channel's usual first-day audience for regular videos. That's a particularly brisk start alongside an interview that begins with the delicate business of not spoiling a reality show.

Acaster sidesteps confirmation and denial, then describes a peculiar problem for comedians in the castle: resisting the urge to perform. "And all the comics are like, don't be funny," he says. Being entertaining and avoiding suspicion aren't necessarily the same assignment.

Away from Traitors, Ireland supplies its own hazards. Acaster recalls visiting Achill Island with fellow comedian David O'Doherty during a severe storm. Staying indoors apparently wasn't the plan. As Acaster recounts O'Doherty's insistence: "He's like, no, we got to go, you can't come to Achill and not go to the beach."

Kielty also produces pictures of Acaster accidentally dressing in the colors of the Irish flag. Later, a story from his Hecklers Welcome performance at Dublin's Vicar Street turns on a much smaller disruption: a subtle fart noise from the audience. Castle intrigue has some surprisingly modest competition.
