The media’s agenda is obvious…
Laura Gallacher remembers the silence. Despite the photographers and onlookers outside court, she says, the scene was unexpectedly quiet after her nervous arrival.
"When we stood outside with the paparazzi the other day, it was silent," she tells her husband, Russell Brand. She compares the experience to the eerie calm at the center of a storm.
Their podcast excerpt, titled "The media's agenda is obvious…", drew roughly 65,000 views in its first day, more than five times the usual start for a Short on Brand's channel.
The conversation shifts from Laura's experience to Brand's criticism of the coverage. "It seems to me that they believe that I'm guilty," he says of the media. He also says that anyone who is a victim of a crime deserves respect.
Brand points to a headline describing Laura, his wife, as a "mystery woman" accompanying him to court. He presents that wording as an example of the press shaping a narrative rather than simply describing their appearance.
"It can't even grant that I'm married," he says. The couple's court experience also features in "Sunday Service 24", where Laura discusses walking into court and dignity.
