Waiting for sunscreen to dry: The Johnson Brothers' summer Short passes 100 million

Viewers keep retelling the worst parts of the wait, from the call to reapply to the lunch announcement that ends the swim before it starts.

Why this story? The channel passed the 100,000,000 views mark.

The Johnson Brothers have turned one of childhood's smallest miseries into one of their biggest hits. "POV: Waiting for sunscreen to dry as a kid…😪@Chubbies #theboys #viral #shorts" went up in mid-September and has now passed 100 million views, a little over three weeks later.

The premise is simple. Everyone else is already in the water, and one kid is stuck on the edge, slick with lotion, waiting for permission to join them.

The comment section reads like a shared memory. Many viewers replay the desperate call for the others to wait. They also bring up the grown-up voice announcing it is time to reapply, and the news that lunch is ready, which arrives just as the wait is finally over. The most liked comment imagines an even worse ending, where everyone leaves before the kid ever gets in. Others say the music alone carries the frustration.

The Short was already outrunning the channel's other uploads at the end of September, as we reported here. It has kept going at more than two million views a day since then.

The brothers, meanwhile, have stayed with the same POV formula. They have posted a friend who never sleeps at sleepovers, a time-travel Short tagged with Terminator, a joke about realistic AI videos and a quarrel over morals tagged Star Wars. The newest to move is "When it's your first time playing a lying game…💔", posted on October 7, which passed a million views today, about four times what a Short of its age usually has here. The channel, now past seven million subscribers, added roughly 80,000 of them over the week.
