Two Mac Allister goals erase Villarreal's early lead at Anfield

TNT Sports Football's two-minute Short of the 4-3 win has commenters arguing over who changed the night: Rio Ngumoha on the wing or Florian Wirtz off the bench.

Why this story? The video opened at a pace of 882,826 views a day, 40 times a normal first day on this channel (22,304).

A TNT Sports Football Short usually gathers around 22,000 views over its whole first day. The highlights of Liverpool's 4-3 win over Villarreal had close to 380,000 after seven hours, and the comments were arriving many times faster than usual.

The clip is under three minutes long, and Liverpool spend its first minute in trouble. Virgil van Dijk's misdirected header lets Georges Mikautadze score after four minutes, and Sergi Cardona makes it two from close range.

Alexis Mac Allister starts the recovery with a header from a corner. Liverpool equalize at the back post just before halftime, and after the break Ngumoha works his way into the box and crosses for Mac Allister's second. "Liverpool have turned the game on its head," the commentator says. Wirtz, introduced as a substitute, finishes inside the box for a fourth. Tani Oluwaseyi's tap-in three minutes from time keeps the ending tense, prompting a final verdict from the commentary box: "Terrific entertainment."

Most of the talk under the video is about Ngumoha: his pace, his close control, whether he should start every week. A second camp credits Wirtz with changing the game after he came on, and several are glad to see him score. The channel also posted a separate clip of Ngumoha saying he is delighted to have made history for Liverpool in the competition.

Anfield comebacks already have a place in this channel's archive. Its second most-watched video of all time, from 2019, is the crowd erupting as Liverpool overturned a three-goal deficit against Barcelona to reach the Champions League final.

Tuesday's other fast starters were longer videos: PSG's 4-2 win over Barcelona drew the most views, while Phil Foden's hat-trick against AEK Athens and Napoli's 4-3 win over Bodø/Glimt also opened well above the usual.

  • Wirtz COMPLETELY changed the game when he came on. Liverpool dominated every minute after.
  • Ngumoha a name to remember
  • Rio gets spoken about like he's one of the best young players in the world but how long until he's considered one of the best wingers in the world? He can play on the left and the right and not only is he absolutely rapid but his close control is phenomenal

  • What a win. Future is Rio Ngumoha
  • Rio is absolutely insane. So much confidence, hope he doesn’t feel too much pressure and continues this form.
