Beyond the debate, Toronto Star tries Scarborough's new busway

Reporter Gabriel Hilty travels from Kennedy Station to Ellesmere, while the channel also visits an installation recalling old Toronto landmarks.

Why this story? The channel's weekly summary: what went up this week, what is drawing views now, and where the channel stands among similar channels.

Toronto Star gave viewers both the full mayoral debate and the conversation afterward, but its six-upload week also made room for a more practical city question: how does the new Scarborough busway shape up?

In "We rode the new Scarborough busway," reporter Gabriel Hilty takes a trip from Kennedy Station to Ellesmere. It is a useful change of perspective from the political stage to the journey itself, and the ride is now among the channel's most active videos.

The debate remains the week's most watched upload, reaching about 46,000 views. Held at TMU's Student Learning Centre, it brought Olivia Chow and Brad Bradford together with moderator Ed Keenan, with the Star, United Way Greater Toronto and TMU co-hosting. As we reported here, the full recording found an audience quickly. Now the separate post-debate media appearance is drawing more daily views than the debate itself, with the busway trip between them.

Across the channel, subscribers were unchanged, while the week's views came to roughly 313,000. That was a more modest week than nearby news channels Guardian Australia and Daily Record, though busier than Private Eye Magazine.

Away from the debate, "Live Discussion: Menopause Maxxing" explored sleep, nutrition, exercise and reader questions. "I Miss You: T.Dot" supplied a different kind of city conversation: a glowing inflatable at Nathan Phillips Square, illustrated with vanished landmarks including Honest Ed's and Sam the Record Man. The week's smaller uploads offered Toronto beyond its campaign microphones.
