What's your excuse for the day off?

Adam's excuse has a continuity problem. He needs time off because his dad is sick, but TechTown manager Rowan remembers something inconvenient: "Isn't he canonically dead?"

Viva La Dirt League's "What's your excuse for the day off?" turns the scramble to play GTA VI into a workplace sketch where everyone apparently needs the same date off. Alan has a wedding. Another coworker needs surgery, though she admits there will be no visible evidence afterward. Rowan grows increasingly suspicious.

The Short has passed 1.2 million views, with an estimated first-day audience about eighteen times the channel's usual Shorts start. A separate upload, "Ridiculous work leave excuses," also crossed a million views, putting the same workplace predicament behind two milestones.

For a group whose gaming comedy often makes game mechanics look absurd in real life, this joke runs in the other direction: the game hasn't even started, and it's already disrupting the staff schedule.

Viewers keep returning to Rowan's use of "canonically," treating Adam's excuse as a violation of the show's own history. Britt supplies a quieter interruption. She approaches the already exasperated manager only to request her lunch break, then eats a cracker in front of him; commenters joke about the unusual sight of her actually taking a break.

Rowan eventually identifies the shared motive and declares gaming an unacceptable reason for leave. His own absence, naturally, is different: "Uh, it's because it's my cat's birthday, and I'm the best man."
