Faded paint gets a second chance on 1A Auto's S10

Rob and Rich test compound, polish and wax on a 1987 Chevrolet pickup without clear coat.

Why this story? The channel's weekly summary: what went up this week, what is drawing views now, and where the channel stands among similar channels.

What's the Best Way to Shine Up Old Faded Paint on Our Project S10: Compound and/or Polish and Wax?What's the Best Way to Shine Up Old Faded Paint on Our Project S10: Compound and/or Polish and Wax?

Does dull old paint necessarily mean a repaint? That is the question Rob and Rich tackle on 1A Auto's project S10, testing ways to bring back its shine rather than immediately reaching for a spray gun.

The paint-restoration video drew roughly 11,000 views, the largest audience of the automotive parts retailer's two new uploads. Its hood comparison puts compound and polish side by side, before the project moves through heavier oxidation, machine polishing and hand-applied wax. There is room for the less glamorous work too: removing old molding adhesive and deciding what to do with bare metal and patina spots. These are repair demonstrations from a parts business, with the project truck providing a continuing story.

The other new installment goes inside the same pickup. In "This Truck Was a Rolling Time Capsule! Project 1987 Chevy S10 Interior Teardown," Rob and Bob clear out accumulated finds and an improbable-sounding collection of floor mats. The description's chapter list soon gets more consequential: footwell rust, a bench-seat removal and a stuck-window diagnosis.

The paint episode also has the most daily viewing among the channel's active uploads listed here. Behind the S10 projects, Cristian and Sue's budget-minded GMC K2500 plow-truck plan continues to draw views, with plenty of rust deliberately left on the job list.

Across the channel, weekly viewing reached about 2.5 million views. Daily viewing is above its usual level, while subscribers held steady. Autotrader also has elevated daily viewing, and Pico Automotive Diagnostics had a particularly strong subscriber-growth week. For 1A Auto, the new material is firmly hands-on: one old Chevy getting attention both beneath the floor mats and across the hood.
