Cold War flashpoints and Paris painters share Absolute History's week

Four uploads span Soviet-era tensions, artistic rebellion, royal upbringing and a Tudor television preview.

Afghanistan, a Paris exhibition and the rules of royal childhood make for quite a stretch of Absolute History's timeline. Its four new uploads offered very different routes into the past, with the Cold War documentary drawing the largest audience of the new arrivals.

"Soviet Invasion of Afghanistan, KAL 007, and the Year of the Spy" reached roughly 38,000 views. Its scope extends beyond military confrontation: the description connects Afghanistan with the Moscow Olympics boycott, the peace protests at Greenham Common and the espionage case of Navy code specialist John Walker. Sport, protest and intelligence work become different windows onto the same strained international relationships.

The art-history alternative, "From Salon des Refusés to Starry Night - Manet to Van Gogh," follows rejected paintings into a transformation of artistic technique. Monet's railway-station light, Seurat's dots and Cézanne's structured color give that journey concrete stopping points. Elsewhere, the monarchy documentary considers changing approaches to royal upbringing, while "Your doorway to the House of Tudor" is a promotional preview directing viewers to a National Geographic series.

Royal history is also supplying the channel's strongest daily momentum. "Even More Crazy Facts About British Kings & Queens!" draws the most views per day, followed by the Operation Barbarossa documentary and the new royal-rules upload.

Across the channel, daily viewing is about a quarter above its usual level, and the week brought 10,000 additional subscribers. Nearby documentary channels have movement too: FRONTLINE PBS added substantially more subscribers, while British Pathé's subscriber total stayed unchanged. For Absolute History, the busy catalog stretches well beyond the week's four arrivals.
