Two puppies test their patience on American Standard Dog Training

An Italian Mastiff and a Belgian Malinois take the down-stay challenge, while viewers focus on the release cue.

Why this story? The channel's weekly summary: what went up this week, what is drawing views now, and where the channel stands among similar channels.

Which Dog Has a Better Down Stay?Which Dog Has a Better Down Stay?

American Standard Dog Training packed thirteen uploads into the week, but its most-watched new video asks the dogs to do rather less: lie down and stay there.

"Which Dog Has a Better Down Stay?" pairs an Italian Mastiff puppy with a slightly older Belgian Malinois. It has drawn roughly 140,000 views, and the discussion beneath it gets wonderfully specific. Viewers keep returning to the nose-touch release and the idea of returning to the dog rather than calling it out of position. One asks whether the same principle should apply to sitting and standing stays; another recalls a foster dog and a technique they hadn't thought to try.

The week's lineup also includes puppy-biting instruction and several police K9 breakdowns. But the strongest daily momentum belongs to "Pitbull vs Giant Dog: Size Matters!", introducing Link alongside the much heavier Xena. The description puts the emphasis on their side-by-side size difference, with a reminder that Xena can move, too.

Across the channel, the week brought about 2.5 million views, while the subscriber total stayed unchanged. Daily viewing is currently below its usual pace. Among nearby animal channels, The Fish Guys had a similar weekly view gain, while Forrest Galante had a substantially bigger week.

There was room for a less formal assignment as well: Steven O'Hagan joins "Dog Trainers Argue Over the BEST Dog Breeds!" for a Wavelength-inspired drinking game. Here, the trainers have to hold their positions, not the puppies.

What viewers say

  • The nose touch release is really clever. I'll bet that this is the exact reason that my dog breaks his down-stay. Should you call them out of a sit-stay or stand-stay, or should the same principle apply? Instead of the nose touch, can you use a free or break, or does this also encourage them to break their stay?

  • I was fostering a GSDxHusky and she got good at stay, but I never thought of going back to her and the nose touch. I'll have to do that with my future Corso. 😊

  • I always just associated it to a specific verbal cue paired with a hand gesture, if both aren't there you keep your butt parked. I do really like the nose release though, beautiful pups
