Zelenskyy thanks Washington as missile warnings return to Ukraine
In Oslo, beside Norway's and Finland's leaders, he says connection problems he discussed with Marco Rubio, Starlink among them, should be fixed within 48 hours.
Why this story? The video opened at a pace of 453,177 views a day, 26 times a normal first day on this channel (17,325).
Ukraine is receiving early warnings from its partners again, Zelenskyy says
Volodymyr Zelenskyy had a thank-you to deliver in Oslo, and he addressed it to the American side. In a short Associated Press clip from a press conference with Norwegian Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Støre and Finnish President Alexander Stubb, he says early warning intelligence is reaching Ukraine again.
The warnings had been missing at a bad time. AP's description says recent Russian attacks came without prior notice to Ukraine. Zelenskyy explains why that matters in the plainest terms: the warnings give civilians, children among them, time to react before ballistic missiles arrive. "Now it works. It's great," he says.
The rest of the clip covers what is still unresolved. Zelenskyy describes a conversation with Secretary of State Marco Rubio, held on a train, about "connection, Starlink, about interceptors which are very important, about intelligence." He calls it positive and concrete, and says he expects the connection problems to be solved within 48 hours. The intelligence is back; the connectivity, by his account, is still a couple of days away.
The Short reached about 180,000 views in six hours, far beyond AP's usual start for one. It sits in a revealing spot on the channel: AP also posted Donald Trump saying the same day that things are "going to get worse" for Ukraine without a deal with Russia, a reminder that the gratitude in Oslo comes with pressure from Washington.
Europe's own streets kept the channel busy too. A Short of workers scrubbing graffiti from the monument at Place de la République after France's worst rioting in years, and an explainer on protests from France to Albania, both started several times faster than AP's usual Shorts.
