Ilhan Omar answers a federal search of her home: "I will not be silenced"
Channel 4 News' Short pairs footage of agents carrying out boxes with her statement, Donald Trump and JD Vance on the claims against her, and the tensions in Minneapolis.
Why this story? The video opened at a pace of 155,963 views a day, 11 times a normal first day on this channel (13,817).
Federal agents raid home of Ilhan Omar
Boxes going into vehicles outside a Washington, D.C. residence: that is the central image of Channel 4 News' report on the search of Ilhan Omar's home. The agents in the footage are from Homeland Security Investigations, and the description says the operation came early in the morning, less than a month before the Minnesota Democrat faces reelection.
The Short opens with archive footage of Omar at a megaphone, telling a crowd that "if there is no accountability today, there will be accountability tomorrow." From there it moves to the people raising questions about her. Donald Trump is shown repeating allegations about her personal background, and Vice President JD Vance, at a White House briefing, says "it certainly seems like something fishy is there," before adding that "everybody's entitled to equal justice under the laws."
Omar's written reply is read out in full. She calls the search political intimidation, says Trump has targeted her "with baseless lies and smear campaigns" for a decade, and ends on four words: "I will not be silenced."
The report places the search within a wider story in Minneapolis, home to the large Somali community Omar comes from, where federal immigration enforcement has drawn protests. It also revisits the moment earlier this year when a man sprayed liquid from a syringe toward her at an event.
At about 87,000 views in nine hours, it has already passed several full first days of a typical Channel 4 News Short, and its comments arrived more than ten times faster than usual. It led a busy day for the channel's Shorts, ahead of CCTV of a Houthi missile striking Riyadh's airport and Andy Burnham's promise to work toward a new EU deal.
