Answer under oath by December 11: judge sets terms for Trump's BBC suit

Euronews' short report explains what a deposition is, why the first one fell through and what Trump risks if he misses the new date.

Why this story? The video opened at a pace of 43,408 views a day, 19 times a normal first day on this channel (2,335).

Judge orders Trump to sit for a deposition in his BBC defamation lawsuit by December 11Judge orders Trump to sit for a deposition in his BBC defamation lawsuit by December 11

A federal judge has given Donald Trump a firm date in his multi-billion-dollar defamation lawsuit against the BBC: he must sit for a deposition by December 11. If he does not, the Euronews report says, he could face sanctions that include the possible dismissal of his own case.

The narrator explains the term plainly: a deposition is the stage where Trump must answer questions under oath before any trial begins. The order is about that questioning, not a ruling on whether the BBC defamed him.

The date follows a cancellation. According to a BBC attorney cited in the report, Trump first agreed to be deposed earlier in October, then called it off over what he described as a matter of national importance. Footage dated October 16 shows him at a campaign podium in Dalton, Georgia. The BBC has accused him of trying to push the deposition into January 2027.

The suit goes back to December 2025 and a BBC documentary. The broadcaster admitted editing together parts of one of Trump's speeches so that he appeared to encourage violence at the US Capitol. It apologized, and two senior executives resigned, but it denies defamation.

For a channel whose Shorts usually draw a few thousand views on their first day, this one passed 23,000 in nine hours. The comments moved even faster: more than a hundred, where a Short here typically gathers one or two. Much of the conversation is a wager on whether the December date will hold at all, and a few viewers remark on the narrator's voice.

Euronews also posted a second upload under the very same title, which has drawn an audience of its own.
