Butter-basted steak gets a Food Theorists kitchen test
Santi Massa's Gordon Ramsay-themed episode was the channel's only new upload, drawing nearly a quarter-million views.
Why this story? The channel's weekly summary: what went up this week, what is drawing views now, and where the channel stands among similar channels.
Gordon Ramsay RUINED Steak!
Does spooning butter over a steak actually make it better? "Food Theory: Gordon Ramsay RUINED Steak!" takes that familiar cooking-video flourish and makes it the subject of an experiment, rather than treating it as an essential finishing touch.
Written by Santi Massa, the episode asks whether the internet's favorite steak technique deserves its reputation. The title points at Ramsay, but the discussion underneath is more practical: viewers are comparing herbs and garlic, different cuts of meat and the problem with declaring any cooking method the only correct one. Some credit Guga with teaching them steak cookery; another remembers learning about butter basting from the anime Food Wars.
The upload drew about 173,000 views in its first day and is the channel's busiest video right now. Behind it, "Food Theory: YOU Ruined Pillsbury Sugar Cookies" continues its investigation into nostalgic cookies and ways to improve them. "Food Theory: The Oreo Conspiracy EXPOSED" adds a different cookie question: what the brand gets from its seemingly endless unusual flavors.
Subscribers held steady at 5.5 million over the week, while today's channel-wide viewing is well below its usual pace. Nearby in food, JOLLY had a substantial viewing week, and Guga Foods is having a much busier day than usual. For Food Theorists, the freshest conversation is about what that extra butter contributes, with viewers offering their own kitchen tests rather than settling for a universal steak rule.

@DtWolfwoodSee it on YouTubeI've somehow managed to miss this whole butter basting thing, but it's interesting anyway
@FloraGaleFlowerSee it on YouTubeI've tested this a bit myself. The best thing butter basting does is implement the things you're basting WITH like the herbs and garlic

Honestly, the thing the grinds my gears in regards to viral cooking videos is when they say this is the ONLY way you should be cooking something. Because, as you pointed out with the different cuts of meat at the end, that is not true.
