"Part of life": Mookie Betts takes the Brewers' sweep in stride

The Dodgers' bid for a third straight title ended in the NLCS, and Betts' calm locker room answers drew a comment section far busier than a usual FOX Sports Short.

Why this story? The video opened at a pace of 208,485 views a day, 18 times a normal first day on this channel (11,826).

How does a player with four World Series rings talk about a sweep? Mookie Betts keeps it short. "It's just part of it, you know, it's part of the game," he tells reporters after the Milwaukee Brewers knocked the Dodgers out of the National League Championship Series. A moment later he widens the frame: "It's kind of part of life, you know, you go through your ups and your downs."

The stakes behind those words were large. Los Angeles came into October as back-to-back champions, chasing the kind of three-peat baseball has not seen since the Yankees at the turn of the century.

The clip runs under a minute. Asked about the missed opportunities, Betts admits the hitting with runners in scoring position was frustrating, then turns it around: "we had a lot of chances, you know, that's really what we can ask for is giving ourselves opportunities." The plan, he says, is to go home, regroup and come back next year.

It passed 135,000 views in eleven hours, and the comments arrived many times faster than on a typical FOX Sports Short. Plenty of them point to the rings Betts already owns. Others argue over whether two straight titles left the team less hungry, and one self-described Dodgers fan simply credits Milwaukee's pitching and hitting.

The rest of the channel's day belonged to the other dugout. The Brewers' pennant call, its title echoing Russ Hodges' famous 1951 "The Giants win the pennant!", Pat Murphy's post-sweep remarks and Milwaukee fans partying inside Dodger Stadium all drew outsized audiences. Among the losing side's voices, Betts' was the one people stopped for.
