Fran Blanche's Film Center adventure brings back projection-booth memories
Three new uploads range from cinema's limits to a buyer-beware warning in “Behold... MoldBay!!”

Limits Of Film (and My Butt!)
The projectionists have stories to tell. Beneath Fran Blanche's “Limits Of Film (and My Butt!),” viewers recall midnight projector rebuilds, choosing pre-feature cartoons and screenings interrupted by broken film. Others make a case for bringing back intermissions, a practical companion to Fran's account of what she calls a weekend adventure at the Film Center.
That upload drew the biggest audience of her three new videos, reaching nearly 10,000 views. “Radiation Meh?” also arrived, followed by “Behold... MoldBay!!,” whose description warns buyers that a delivery might contain more than they bargained for. The latter is now attracting the most daily views of the three, though the cinema conversation has the larger total.
Fran's subscriber count stayed unchanged, just below 300,000, while daily viewing is running well below its usual pace. Nearby science channels are having varied weeks: Astrum Extra added a substantial audience, while Event Horizon also has unchanged subscribers and slower-than-usual daily viewing. For Fran, the most distinctive exchange is in the film comments, where a trip to the cinema has become a gathering of people who remember operating the machinery behind the screen.

Served as a projectionist and picking the pre-feature cartoons was so fun.. theater booth is a fine place!!
@robballer3469See it on YouTubeBack when I worked at Landmark Theaters, we had a tech that would come once a year and completely rebuild the (Century) projectors. She showed up at midnight, tore it down to every last gear and oiled and/or replaced whatever was worn. She was always done hours before we reopened for matinee the next day. She always used to say: Simplexes wear IN; Centurys wear OUT.
@TucsonAnalogWorkshopSee it on YouTubeI used to run projectors in the late 60's early 70's your story reminded me of when I was running "You only live twice" and the film broke with a piece stuck in the gate. I was watching the movie, as I usually did, and saw the colorful display and for a moment I thought that it was part of the movie (!)

The lack of intermissions is especially mysterious when many cinemas state that they loose money except for concession sales.
@mikebarushok5361See it on YouTubeI saw Empire Strikes Back at my local theater as a kid, and the film broke in the middle. The crowd grew restless with the delay in fixing it.
@BrianAustin-h5nSee it on YouTubeThe only film breakage I experienced in a theater was Star Trek: The Motion Picture. It was a small theater in Upstate NY. We were visiting some extended family. They stopped it before the film burned but it did take them about 30 minutes to get it going again.
