'Tweets and memes do not affect Canada': Carney and Poilievre answer Musk
The prime minister replied from a podium in Sherbrooke, and the Conservative leader followed a day later with word of a nationwide unity campaign.

After Elon Musk called on Quebec to separate, Carney and Poilievre dismiss ex-Trump advisor
A typical Global News Short collects about 13,000 views across its whole first day. The one in which Mark Carney and Pierre Poilievre reply to Elon Musk passed 176,000 in ten hours. Its comment section filled even faster: more than 500 comments, where a usual Short gathers a couple of dozen in a day.
The trigger was a post on X. Musk, who once advised Donald Trump, wrote that Quebec should separate from Canada, and so should Alberta and Saskatchewan. Carney answered on Thursday in Sherbrooke, standing behind a bilingual sign that read "Lower Bills. Greener Homes.", a backdrop clearly set up for a different announcement. "The future of Canada will be decided by Canadians," he said, and he added that it would be decided free from foreign governments and from large tech firms that think they can tell Canadians what to do.
Poilievre took the question on Friday at an outdoor podium and played it down. He said Conservatives want a stronger Alberta, Saskatchewan and Quebec inside a united Canada, that "tweets and memes do not affect Canada," and that "Canadians control their own destiny." He closed by announcing a nationwide Conservative unity campaign, with another speech in Alberta still to come.
The Short did not have the day to itself. A second one from Global News, showing Nobel Peace Prize winner Navi Pillay joking that she might share the prize with Trump, also ran far ahead of a usual start.
