Trump tells Zelenskyy to stop hitting Russian refineries, calls for new Ukrainian leader

"Zelenskyy could have settled this war many times." With that line, Donald Trump opens the short Global News clip in which he tells Ukraine to stop striking Russian oil refineries and ends by calling for a change at the top in Kyiv.

The footage comes from a pool camera in Washington, with reporters heard off camera. Trump says Ukraine had been warned to leave the refineries alone because of what fuel shortages would mean for farmers and ranchers. "And what does he do? He goes and hits the diesel fuel," he says. He argues that the war should never have started, and in the clip's last seconds he says, "And I think it's time for Ukraine to get a new president."

The Short reached about 94,000 views in its first seven hours. A Global News Short usually draws around 13,000 over a full day. The comments moved even faster: more than 600 in those hours, compared with a couple of dozen on a typical first day. Many of them turn the diesel question back toward the war with Iran and the closing of the Strait of Hormuz.

It was a busy Saturday for the broadcaster's Trump coverage. A clip of Zelenskyy calling Trump's diesel deal with Vladimir Putin "weak," and of Trump's reply, also had a strong start. So did Trump's angry Syracuse rally response to missing the Nobel Peace Prize.

The day's other fast riser came from a long way outside politics. University of Alberta researchers found tooth marks on a tyrannosaur fossil from the badlands north of Drumheller. The marks may be the first evidence that much smaller raptors fed on the apex predator.
