The Justice Department's lawsuit over Alaska's Senate race already had the candidate's answer: Mary Peltola called it "a desperate attempt," as we reported here. In MS NOW's latest segment from The Beat with Ari Melber, the focus moves to who wanted the case filed.
The answer comes from Donald Trump himself, in a clip played near the end of the discussion: "Well, I'm the one who said do it." Chai Komanduri responds that it is "right out in the open," while Juanita Tolliver visibly reacts in shock.
Melber opens with 11 days until the midterms and does not hide his own reading of the suit. Citing coverage in The New York Times and The Washington Post that describes it as highly unusual, he calls it "a loser," "a stinker" and "a Hail Mary."
The segment, titled "RED WALL CRACKS from TX to AK!", argues that Republicans are on defense in places they usually count on. Komanduri names Alaska, Kansas and Texas, "which Democrats have dreamed of turning blue for generations." Tolliver points to the economy and corruption among voters' concerns. "You can't treat voters this poorly and then say, 'Hey, still show up for us,'" she says.
Melber also reports another $76 million from Elon Musk for Republican efforts, bringing his total to nearly half a billion dollars by the show's count, and notes Barack Obama campaigning in Michigan.
The video drew about 78,000 views in its first four hours, making it the channel's second most watched new upload.
