Coventry City v. Newcastle United | PREMIER LEAGUE HIGHLIGHTS | 10/12/2026 | NBC Sports
The last goal is the one people will remember. With Coventry already 3-1 up against Newcastle, Stephen Mfuni, an 18-year-old defender, weaves into the box and fires home. "Oh that is quite outstanding!" says commentator Daniel Mann, and a moment later he adds the detail that makes it special: "His first-ever senior goal!"
NBC Sports' twelve-minute highlights of the Monday night game reached about 188,000 views in six hours, many times what a regular upload on the channel usually draws in a whole first day.
The night starts with Sidiki Chérif winning a penalty after contact with Newcastle goalkeeper Antonín Horníček. Jack Rudoni scores it and lifts his shirt to show a message underneath: "GET WELL SOON NAN." Chérif then volleys in the second after a scramble in the Newcastle box. Sven Botman pulls one back with a long-range shot, before substitute Ellis Simms, with his first goal of the season, finishes a deflected effort to restore the two-goal lead. Mfuni's run closes it, and the clip ends with Frank Lampard shaking hands on the touchline.
The comment section is much busier than this channel normally sees on a first day, and much of it is about the quieter moments. One viewer, not a Coventry supporter, noticed teammates applauding Chérif after a bad miss. Another singles out a Coventry defender who was beaten to the ball on a Newcastle breakaway but kept running and stopped a goal on the line. A third breaks down the referee's advantage call in the 81st minute, three decisions in a row.
NBC also posted Mfuni's and Simms's goals as separate clips, and Cara Banks and Danny Higginbotham went through what went wrong for Newcastle in a studio reaction.

Not a Coventry fan, but when I saw Shereiff badly miss @6:14 and his teammates still applaud to support him, I thought: this is a real team. They have something.
@jammerlappieSee it on YouTubePlay of the match for me was the defense by Coventry on a break away by Newcastle -- Thompson was beaten to the ball but didn't give up, instead he ran to cover the goal and made a goal line stop preventing the goal. He was beaten but didn't give up -- give him the game ball!

@stacye8408See it on YouTubeGotta highlight the ref's advantage call in the 81st minute @ 9:20! Three calls in a row to get there. Starts with probably a good no call on the wing, though I could see it being called. The challenge in the box was clean enough, and is waved away. Then a challenge at the top of the penalty arc which is a clear foul (and a great spot for a free kick.) The ref puts the whistle to his mouth but, just before Simms' strike, signals advantage and holds it until the ball is in the back of the net.
Refs are always called out for mistakes, but those decisions were great, and should be applauded.
