Bilbo tries to steal a purse, and the purse objects. Nerd of the Rings' only new upload this week, "Roast Mutton, The Hobbit Ch 2 | Tolkien by Chapter," reaches the point where a burglar's job becomes considerably less appealing than breakfast at Bag End.
The illustrated breakdown follows Bilbo from his hurried departure to the company's encounter with Bert, Tom and William. Gandalf's disappearing act leaves the dwarves sending their inexperienced recruit toward a light in the woods. Later, the narrator connects the treasure in the trolls' cave to some very familiar Elven blades: Orcrist, Glamdring and the dagger Bilbo will call Sting.
One lovely continuity detail comes earlier: the green hood and cloak Bilbo receives for this journey turn up again in The Fellowship of the Ring. It is exactly the sort of small connection a chapter-by-chapter approach has room to linger over.
The upload has reached about 61,000 views and is the channel's most active video right now. Behind it, the darker "Gorlim & the Cruelest Deception of Sauron | Tolkien Explained" and "The Morgul Vale | Tolkien Explained" continue drawing views. Across the channel, daily viewing is running at roughly half its usual pace, while the subscriber count was unchanged over the week. Fellow Tolkien channels The Broken Sword and Tolkien Untangled are also seeing slower-than-usual daily viewing.
Under "Roast Mutton," viewers discuss the trolls' Cockney accents and how conversational Tolkien's monsters can be. Others describe using the series as a companion to rereading the book. One viewer has a practical request inspired by Bilbo's mishap: a wallet that protests unnecessary purchases.

What viewers say
I need a purse/wallet that yells at me whenever I try to take money out to spend on something I don't need
@LifeInTheFourthAgeSee it on YouTubeLove the Cockney accents for the trolls. I haven't read about why Tolkien chose that dialect.
@tdmathew1989See it on YouTubeI used to think that the reason the trolls were talking and acting so "normally" (so to speak) was because "The Hobbit" is a children's book. But after once again reading "The Uruk-hai," I realized that this is just how orcs and trolls actually talk and behave when they aren't trying to kill something.

@beanie9445See it on YouTubeThank you! I'm "re-reading" the book through your videos so I am so thankful for your efforts and I hope you continue into the Lotr and we can all revisit these incredible books!
@grandchesterSee it on YouTubeI love Gandalf's brashness of shaming Bilbo into action by both criticizing him for his failure to dust the mantle AND only getting to breakfast after 10 because he'd been cleaning the rest.
@tdmathew1989See it on YouTubeI love this approach of getting through the books as a reread / rehear. Please do this for the lord of the rings too
