A knocking engine under the cheapest Audi RS4 B9 in the UK

Dean bought the B9 at auction knowing it knocked, and his single upload of the week passed a quarter of a million views in four days.

Why this story? The channel's weekly summary: what went up this week, what is drawing views now, and where the channel stands among similar channels.

I BOUGHT THE CHEAPEST AUDI RS4 B9 IN THE UK!... OR SO I THOUGHT...I BOUGHT THE CHEAPEST AUDI RS4 B9 IN THE UK!... OR SO I THOUGHT...

Saving Salvage passed 65 million total views this week on the back of one car: an Audi RS4 B9 that Dean bought at auction as the cheapest in the UK, with a catch spelled out in the title's trailing "or so I thought." The catch is the engine, which knocks. The description sets up the question plainly: can he fix it for less than a working one would cost, or has his recent run of luck run out?

The video opened with more than 160,000 views on its first day and is now past a quarter of a million, by far the busiest thing on the channel. Two weeks back, Dean picked up what he bills as Audi's last 4.2 V8 manual, an S5, for £2,700. That one has settled into a steady trickle, about level with the crashed Porsche 911 992.2 hybrid from the summer.

The comment section reads like a workshop full of second opinions. Several viewers diagnose rod bearings from the borescope footage. Others point at the cheap tires as the first warning sign, and a few remember old tractors and motorbikes that sounded just like it. The price paid gets a lot of heated debate. Plenty more simply want to see the engine running again, and one viewer in Hatfield has offered to weld the wastegate.

The week's subscriber count held steady and daily views ran right at their usual level. Among the car channels nearest its size, Calvin's Car Diary, salvage rebuilds uk and Pole Barn Garage all had weeks well above their norm, while Burlacher sat quiet. Calvin, as it happens, was busy with an RS4 of his own, an older B7.

  • Cheap tyres on a performance car set the alarm bells ringing. On the upside, stuff like this makes for great content!

  • Dean like your straight talk rather than some channels with the scripted nonsense 🎉
  • I had an old BSA that sounded like that - very briefly, before a con rod came out of the front of the crank case. The towel was not to soak up oil it was to muffle the sound of a knackered big end,
