A vintage Westfalia brings Scotty Kilmer's week back to earth
A 1978 pop-top camper joins a nine-upload week spanning flying cars, Subaru ownership and mysterious car smells.
Why this story? The channel's weekly summary: what went up this week, what is drawing views now, and where the channel stands among similar channels.
The Last Good Volkswagen Van Ever Made (And Why They Don't Make Them Like This Anymore)
The Volkswagen came with a "do not start up" sign and an oil leak near the dipstick. In Scotty Kilmer's account, warming the engine swelled the rubber gasket and stopped the leak, giving his latest camper inspection a rather inexpensive turning point.
"The Last Good Volkswagen Van Ever Made (And Why They Don't Make Them Like This Anymore)" explores a buyer's $10,500 Westfalia, from its air-cooled engine to the beds, sink and pop-top roof. Kilmer also takes it on the road. It is a distinctly grounded companion to his flying-Tesla commentary, the week's most-watched new upload with about 223,000 views.
That Roadster monologue moves from compressed-air thrusters to an Alef flying vehicle, before turning to E85 and Penske Automotive. Viewers supply their own practical questions: would drivers need pilot licenses, and what happens when ordinary traffic gains another dimension? One reaches for Chitty Chitty Bang Bang as the preferred alternative.
Across nine uploads, Kilmer also inspected a high-mileage Subaru Legacy whose owner chose it over a Camry, and worked through the possible sources of sulfur, gasoline, sweet coolant and burning smells. The Westfalia and Roadster videos currently draw the most daily views, with his live upload also active.
Channel-wide daily viewing is about half again its usual level, while subscribers were unchanged over the week. Among nearby motoring channels, Mat Armstrong and Westen Champlin both had substantial weeks of subscriber growth. Kilmer's own week brought roughly 3.4 million views, mixing futuristic spectacle with the much more familiar question of whether an old car is worth keeping.

Scotty, does this mean that us drivers will now have to get our private pilot license on top of our driver's license in order to drive this Tesla contraption???
@davedaihatsu2585See it on YouTubeThe best flying car ever was Chitty Chitty Bang Bang! 🙂
@ToPrepareHisWaySee it on YouTubePeople can't drive as it is. Adding an additional dimension to the process would be disastrous.
