SpaceX's Mars ambitions get a business check on TLDR Business
Two new explainers examine the space company's business model and the significance of OpenAI's legal troubles.
Why this story? The channel's weekly summary: what went up this week, what is drawing views now, and where the channel stands among similar channels.
Why SpaceX Has Given up on Space
Colonizing Mars is a grand ambition, but TLDR Business wants to look at the books. Its Wednesday upload, "Why SpaceX Has Given up on Space," asks whether the company's business tells a different story from its spacefaring mission. The title is the channel's argument, not an announcement that SpaceX has stopped launching rockets.
At roughly 172,000 views, it was the most watched of the week's two uploads. Viewers are discussing the relationship between launch infrastructure and satellite internet, with one drawing a science-fiction distinction between The Expanse and Star Trek. Another takes a closer look at the video's definition of a total addressable market: even the business vocabulary gets a check in the replies.
Saturday's "Why OpenAI is in Serious Trouble" already has a substantial audience and is now drawing the most daily views on the channel. It examines the significance of the company's legal disputes and includes a warning about discussion of suicide. Behind the two new explainers, an earlier Manchester City football-finance video remains active.
TLDR Business added about 1,000 subscribers over the week, although its current daily viewing is around half its usual pace. Its weekly views were close to Bloomberg Live's, while David Lin had a considerably larger viewing week. For TLDR Business, the freshest attention is on OpenAI, but the SpaceX upload supplied the week's largest new audience.

Strickly speaking, Elon is trying to make "The Expanse" real, not "Star Trek".😊
@arrow1414See it on YouTubeThe space launch capability is like infrastructure, it's not hugely profitable but it has enables spaces based tech like starlink. Without it, they wouldn't have the revenue from being a space based ISP.

3:58 this definition of total addressable market is slightly inaccurate. Just ignoring competitive constraints will give you the serviceable addressable market. For total addressable market you need to also ignore other limitations of the business operations that limits product surplus capture even without competition.
