Gaethje vs Topuria with the commentators muted and the corners turned up
Referee Marc Goddard, coaching shouted in Spanish and Georgian, and a doctor checking Topuria's right eye carry UFC's stripped-back replay.
Why this story? The video opened at a pace of 944,248 views a day, 14 times a normal first day on this channel (67,447).
Justin Gaethje vs Ilia Topuria 🚨 | NO COMMENTARY
Fewer voices, more fight. UFC has reposted Justin Gaethje against Ilia Topuria with the broadcast booth switched off, so what's left is the cage itself: gloves landing, breathing, referee Marc Goddard and the people in each corner.
That changes what you hear. Goddard opens with the plain rule, "When I say stop, you stop." Between rounds, Topuria's team works in Georgian and Spanish, a reminder of a fighter with Georgian roots who grew up in Spain. "Lo estás haciendo todo bien" (you're doing everything right), one voice tells him. On the other side, Gaethje hears "Your jab is money" and, after the second round, "Start pressing him. No more backwards."
The fight itself swings. Gaethje lands heavily in the second before Topuria takes him down and finishes the round on top. Gaethje answers in the third with a takedown of his own and punches from above. Then the replay turns quiet in a different way: Topuria's corner tells officials he cannot see out of his right eye, and Goddard calls for the doctor's assessment.
The upload passed 790,000 views in its first 16 hours, and the comments came in about seventeen times faster than on a usual first day for the channel's longer videos. Many of them are about the format rather than the result. Viewers ask for a commentary-free livestream and for main events to get the same treatment. They praise the overhead angle for showing Gaethje's footwork and say the silence shows off Goddard's refereeing. Gaethje's coach, Trevor Wittman, gets a request for his own microphone at every fight he works.
Two Shorts cut from the same idea also started fast: one asking what happened to Topuria's vision, the other built around a single knee billed as "loud."

The numbers
A full-length fight replay on a channel this size usually starts slowly. This one did not, and its comment section ran even further ahead of usual than its views.

Ilia Topuria's corner shouts in Spanish and in the language of his family's home country. Which country is it?
Topuria is of Georgian heritage and grew up in Spain, which is why his corner uses both Georgian and Spanish.
