An abandoned Gibson houseboat expands Vice Grip Garage's rescue fleet

Derek's only new upload tackles interior changes and engine upgrades, bringing the renovation close to a million views.

Why this story? The channel's weekly summary: what went up this week, what is drawing views now, and where the channel stands among similar channels.

Getting an abandoned machine moving again is familiar territory for Derek Bieri. Giving it a renovated living space and getting it onto the water is a different assignment.

Vice Grip Garage's only new upload, "Budget ABANDONED HOUSEBOAT Renovation! HUGE Interior & Engine Upgrades!", returns to a classic Gibson houseboat for interior changes, renovation plans and more work on the motors. It reached roughly 855,000 views in its opening 30 hours. The destination here isn't a long drive home, but a boat ready to leave the dock.

The comments have their own workshop agenda. Viewers debate whether the timber floors should stay natural, while people identifying themselves as experienced marine mechanics offer explanations of reverse-rotation engines and suggestions for inspecting the boat. Others have already supplied nautical nicknames, including USS I'll Be Dipped. One viewer places the oddball project alongside Derek's monster truck as a particular draw.

The houseboat is the channel's busiest video right now, followed by the previously hidden project Derek describes as a replacement for Independence Chevelle. His one-owner Chevelle rescue, the subject of our earlier note, also continues to draw views.

Across the channel, subscribers were unchanged over the week, and daily viewing is running below its usual level. Even so, Vice Grip Garage collected about 3.8 million views over seven days, a substantial week among the nearby motoring channels. For this upload, though, the practical conversation has shifted from roadworthiness to floors, engines and what needs checking before a launch.
