"The Biggest Hug" sends Vsauce viewers back to the globe
Two new uploads pair a hug-sized title with a spooky mathematical coincidence, while audio palindromes remain busy in the catalog.
Why this story? The channel's weekly summary: what went up this week, what is drawing views now, and where the channel stands among similar channels.
The Biggest Hug
Vsauce posted two videos, and Michael Stevens has left viewers questioning something as basic as their sense of direction. "The Biggest Hug" drew the larger audience of the new pair, reaching about 2.3 million views.
The conversation underneath is wonderfully specific: viewers are puzzling over the two places called Point Udall, discussing Alaska's geographic extremes and singling out an upside-down globe. Others have been distracted by Michael's reflection in a mirror. For a video with such a welcoming title, there is a fair amount of spatial disorientation in the replies.
"A Spooky Mathematical Coincidence" followed, with a smaller total audience but more daily views right now than "The Biggest Hug." Its title supplies the mathematical intrigue without giving the coincidence away.
Neither new arrival is the channel's busiest upload at the moment. "The Ontological Status of Phenylalanine In Sugar Free Sodas" and "Audio Palindromes" are drawing almost identical daily audiences, with the soda question narrowly higher. The latter is several weeks older, giving the week's fresh puzzles some durable company.
The channel added about 100,000 subscribers over seven days, even though daily viewing is currently well below its usual pace. In the neighboring science group, Veritasium had a slightly larger weekly viewing total; Cleo Abram's was close to Vsauce's. For Michael, the week's most distinctive audience discussion comes back to that globe: which way, exactly, are we facing?
