Clear skies, fatal collision: Wonder revisits the Cerritos disaster

The aviation investigation joins NASA's Super Guppy and a Panama helicopter recovery in an eight-upload week.

How do two aircraft collide on a clear day? Wonder's most-watched new upload examines the 1986 collision over Cerritos, California, following investigators as they reconstruct the final moments of Aeroméxico Flight 498 and a private Piper Cherokee.

"82 Dead: How Two Planes Collided On a Clear Day Over Los Angeles" has drawn about 14,000 views. The documentary looks beyond visibility to air traffic control, radar and the limits of pilots spotting other aircraft, then traces the investigation's implications for collision-avoidance technology.

Other aviation uploads offered very different engineering problems. Tony, Walter and the Archangel Aviation team head into Panama to recover a partially stripped Sikorsky helicopter intended for conversion into an air ambulance. NASA's bulbous Super Guppy gets its own profile, focused on the oversized cargo aircraft and the physical demands of flying it. Another documentary examines the Air India Flight 182 bombing and the deep-sea search for evidence.

Wonder added roughly a million views across the week, close to Spark's weekly total, while its subscriber count remained unchanged. Daily viewing is slightly below its usual level.

The strongest daily momentum, though, belongs to crime documentaries rather than aircraft. "The FBI Hunts The Smartest Criminals (Who Almost Got Away)" is the busiest of the channel's active uploads, followed by the newly posted "3 True Crime Cases That Exposed The Most Shocking Betrayals". Both assemble multiple episodes of The FBI Files, giving Wonder's long-form investigation library another substantial outing.
