Capri Sun memories return in Company Man's fruit-drink comparison

The channel's only new upload explores the brands that became fixtures of the 1990s, from Kool-Aid to Sunny D.

Why this story? The channel's weekly summary: what went up this week, what is drawing views now, and where the channel stands among similar channels.

Postgame Capri Sun, Juicy Juice on PBS and Hi-C cans opened with a can opener: Company Man's comment section has become a small archive of childhood drink rituals.

"Comparing Fruit Drinks From the 1990s" was the channel's only new upload this week, reaching about 130,000 views. Rather than following one company's rise or decline, it brings several familiar brands into the same business-history frame, looking at how they gained relevance during the decade. Kool-Aid, Sunny D, Hi-C, Capri-Sun and Hawaiian Punch all appear among its subjects.

Viewers are filling in the everyday details that brand histories can miss. Some remember wrestling with pouch straws; others recall Squeezit's bottle faces and color changes. Several ask for more comparisons that connect similar companies, while one wants to know where the Kool-Aid Man's wall-breaking commercials went.

The restaurant story "The Decline of Fazoli's...What Happened?" is drawing the largest daily audience among the channel's most active videos, slightly above the fruit-drink comparison. Its look at the pasta chain's history and five reasons for its decline has reached roughly 340,000 views. "Sega vs. Nintendo" adds another kind of nostalgia, tracing the companies' console history across multiple generations.

Company Man sits between CNBC Make It and Good Work in subscriber size. Nearby, The Iced Coffee Hour is having a particularly busy day, with views more than twice its usual daily level. Here, the week's new offering stays close to Company Man's central curiosity: how familiar companies earned a place in everyday life, right down to the drink handed out after soccer.

  • If you didn’t have cable and all you had was PBS kids, then juicy juice is just engraved into your memory

  • I will always hear "Respect the pouch! Respect it!" in my head when I grab a Capri Sun. Those straws are frustrating, they'd always snap and bend before ever going in the pouch

  • How did you skip over the iconic "Kool-Aid man breaking through the brick wall" commercials?!

  • I was a kid in the '80s, and the question always came up "who's got sugar?" Because that was the kid whose house got commandeered so we could mix up some Kool-Aid. There was a store near the middle school that sold Kool-Aid packets for 10 cents. All our moms made cookies so someone had sugar in the house (and if they had some cookies left we would totally eat those.)
  • Anyone else remember when Caprisun's openings were made of foil, and almost impossible to open?

  • I thought this was a great video and would love to see more like this. Seeing multiple-yet-similar companies in one video that ties them all together made for a great watch
  • I feel like the questions you ask at the end of your videos have always stood out to me as legitimately curious and unique among youtubers. Really appreciate the work you do.
