Richard Hammond tests the electric Evija's Lotus identity
His Hethel drive has passed a million views, with an engineering conversation behind the hypercar's enormous power claims.
Why this story? The whole channel is running at 1,104,311 views a day, 7.9 times a normal day (139,190).
The Lotus drive passed a million. Richard Hammond's outing in the Evija has crossed that milestone as DRIVETRIBE draws roughly 1.1 million views a day across the channel, nearly eight times its usual daily audience.
"Richard Hammond Drives the 2,000HP Lotus Evija" has an obvious headline attraction, but its central question is more interesting than the horsepower: does an all-electric hypercar still feel like a Lotus?
At the company's Hethel test track, Hammond joins Gav Kershaw, Lotus' director of engineering and motorsport, to explore the four-motor powertrain, downforce and electric sound before taking the wheel himself. For a marque long associated with lightness and nimble handling, that question of character matters as much as straight-line speed.
It also follows a related question on DRIVETRIBE's upload shelf. Alex Goy's earlier drive in a Jaguar Type 01 prototype asks whether the brand's electric reinvention still feels like a Jaguar. Different cars, but the same challenge: what survives when the engine changes?
Hammond's Evija drive puts that question on Lotus' own testing ground, with one of its engineering leaders there to explain the machinery.
